Lymphocytes binding C-reactive protein during acute rheumatic fever.
Lymphocytes binding C-reactive protein (CRP) were studied in 31 patients with acute rheumatic fever and 30 controls who were children. Marked elevations in both proportions and absolute numbers of CRP-binding lymphocytes were recorded in rheumatic fever (P less than 0.001). No clear correlation was noted between plasma CRP as quantitated by radioimmunoassay and proportions or numbers of CRP-bin...
متن کاملAdverse Effect of T-2 Toxin and the Protective Role of Selenium and Vitamin E on Peripheral Blood B lymphocytes
Background: T-2 mycotoxin belongs to the Trichothecene family and has damaging effects on the immune system. Objective: To investigate the toxic effect of T-2 toxin on the percentage of peripheral blood B lymphocytes and the potential protective role of selenium and vitamin E. Method: Frequencies of B lymphocytes (CD19+ ) were analyzed after injection of sublethal doses of T-2 toxin into Balb/c...
متن کاملPeripheral blood T- and B-lymphocytes in operating theatre personnel.
The effect of operating theatre work on peripheral blood T- and B-lymphocytes was studied by the rosette method. There was no statistically significant difference between operating theatre personnel and the controls in the number of T- and B-lymphocytes. This study supports the view that work in operating theatres does not cause changes in the immune response.
متن کاملCardiac Troponin-t in Acute Rheumatic Fever
Objective: Acute rheumatic fever is still one of the leading causes of mortality and morbidity due to heart disease in developing countries. Carditis is the most important manifestation of the disease and there are still difficulties in diagnosis. Cardiac troponin-T measurement has been found to be valuable in recognition of cardiac injury in various disease states. We investigated the cardiac ...
متن کاملStudies of peripheral blood T-and B-lymphocytes in acute infections.
E-binding (T) and immunoglobulin-bearing (B) lymphocytes were determined in 22 patients with acute infections. The percentage of T-cells was depressed in most patients in the early stages of disease, whereas the B-cell proportion was usually elevated compared with convalescence and controls. The B-cell increase occurred earlier in a small group of viral or mycoplasmal infections than in bacteri...
